WHY IT WORKS:

Numerous therapeutic styles utilize the notion of externalizing your issues. A common barrier to overcoming issues is that we have spent so long with them we have incorporated them into our identities. When something is seen as an identifying feature, it is viewed as something that cannot be changed.

For instance, your hair color. It is an unchangeable feature in a sense. You can dye it, but you still know deep down that your original hair color is not the color you dye it to.

If we experience something like depression and incorporate it into our identity like hair color, even if we start to make changes, we don't believe those changes are authentic. We believe we are just "hiding" our true selves. Your problems don't define you; what you do with them does.

*Don't forget to join the online community. While it is new and building, it is still a good place to connect with like-minded people. Bonus, while it is small, I will have more time to interact individually, so take advantage of that now!
