Cognitive restructuring is a group of therapeutic techniques that help people notice and change their negative thinking patterns. When thought patterns become destructive and self-defeating, it's a good idea to explore ways to interrupt and redirect them. That's what cognitive restructuring can do.

 

It is common for people who struggle with PTSD and Anxiety to have distorted automatic thoughts of overgeneralizations, all-or-nothing thinking, and personalization. They tell us how things “must” or “should“ be. This exercise is designed to help you return to a more balanced view where you can see the world as safe (within limits), you can see events as controllable, and predictable, and see yourself as competent enough to handle whatever shit hits the fan.
